UGC NET Social Work — Paper 2, subject code 10

All ten units are written, in 24 chapters: two for each unit, except three for Unit III, Social Work with Individuals and Groups (casework concepts and approaches; the casework process, techniques, interviewing and recording; group work, group dynamics, stages and practice sites), three for Unit IV, Social Work with Communities and Social Action (community organisation and its process; models of practice, social action and the Freire, Alinsky and liberation-theology models; social movements and the Gandhi, King and Fanon comparison), three for Unit IX, Areas of Social Work Practice I (medical and psychiatric social work and mental disorders; ageing, disability and gender; labour welfare, HRM, industrial relations and CSR), and three for Unit X, Areas of Social Work Practice II (social defence and criminal-justice legislation; families and children; environment and disaster management). The units carry the document's own titles; the practice areas named in the parenthetical headings of Units IX and X are the chapters' subjects. Casework, group work, community organisation, social action, welfare administration, social defence and medical and psychiatric social work are taught as the profession's own practice knowledge. Superseded and misdated Acts are quoted as the syllabus names them and taught as the law now stands: the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 was repealed and replaced by the Act of 2015, in force from 15 January 2016, whose 2021 amendment gave District Magistrates the power to issue adoption orders; the "Immoral Traffic prevention Act 1986" is the Suppression of Immoral Traffic in Women and Girls Act 1956, renamed the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act by the 1986 amendment; the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act dates from 1985, not 1986; there is no single central "Beggary Prevention Act", begging being governed by state laws such as the Bombay Prevention of Begging Act 1959, whose criminalising provisions the Delhi High Court struck down for Delhi in Harsh Mander v Union of India (2018); and the "Prison Act" is the Prisons Act 1894, with the Model Prisons and Correctional Services Act 2023 as a model law for states. The Probation of Offenders Act 1958, the Mental Healthcare Act 2017 (with section 115's presumption of severe stress for a person who attempts suicide), the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and its 21 conditions, the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007, the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2019, POCSO 2012, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006, the PCPNDT Act 1994, the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act 1956 with CARA, the National Policy for Children 2013, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989, acceded to by India in 1992), the PWDVA 2005, the Societies Registration Act 1860, the Indian Trusts Act 1882, section 8 of the Companies Act 2013 and the FCRA 2010 as amended in 2020 are taught as they stand. The four labour codes (on wages, 2019; industrial relations, social security, and occupational safety, health and working conditions, 2020) are taught as enacted to consolidate the older labour Acts, whose commencement should be checked, with the classic Acts as the framework they subsume. The syllabus's "neurotic" and "somatoform" disorders, ICD-10 and DSM-IV categories, are taught as named and mapped to DSM-5-TR (2022), with its somatic symptom and related disorders, and ICD-11 (in effect from 2022), with its bodily distress disorder; this is academic content, not clinical or legal advice. The Planning Commission is taught as replaced by NITI Aayog on 1 January 2015, the Five-Year Plans ending with the Twelfth (2012–17). Research statistics are worked with checked answers: a median, a coefficient of variation, a rank correlation, degrees of freedom for a t-test and a chi-square test, and HDI dimension indices. The document's slips are quoted and taught correctly: "Strategic Development Goals" (the Sustainable Development Goals), "Circumflex model" (Olson's Circumplex Model), "Theoretic Research" (read as theory-building research such as grounded theory), "National Policy on Children" (the National Policy for Children), "UN convention an rights of children", "Practioners", "Tecniques", "Maintaince", "Admisntration", "ofAdministration", "Scenerio", "Familiaes", "Reosurce", "Defintiion", "Globlazition", "Identifications and Formulations", "CommunityBased" and "Combing" (Combining); the document also misprints "Public Relations" in Unit VI. The overlap with material already on this platform, the widest of any subject, was scoped precisely. Unit II touches NET Sociology on concepts, approaches and stratification and NET Psychology on development, personality and social psychology; here it is written at the level a social work postgraduate is examined on and framed for practice. Unit IV's social movements touch NET Sociology and Political Science. Unit V touches the research chapters of seven subjects. Units VI and VII touch NET Public Administration on social welfare, social justice, policy theory and development administration, and Unit VII NET Economics, Geography and Political Science on development, the SDGs and the HDI. Unit VIII touches NET Law on fundamental rights and human rights. Unit IX touches NET Psychology on psychopathology, NET Home Science on ageing, and NET Management and Commerce on HRM, industrial relations, TQM and CSR. Unit X touches NET Home Science on family and child development, NET Law on family law and the Juvenile Justice Act, and NET Public Administration on disaster management. Each was opened and written independently from this document's own list, as social work; nothing is adapted or reworded. Units I and III, most of Unit IV and Unit X's social defence have no equivalent elsewhere on the platform.
