UGC NET Economics — Paper 2, subject code 01

This one code covers ten degrees — Economics, Rural Economics, Co-operation, Demography, Development Planning, Development Studies, Econometrics, Applied Economics, Development Economics and Business Economics — so candidates whose degree is named for one of the others sit this same paper, and a Rural Economics or Demography or Business Economics postgraduate is exactly who that scope note is for. All ten units are written, in 25 chapters: three each for Units 1, 2, 3, 8 and 10 (this syllabus’s most theoretically/technically dense units) and two for every other unit. Units 1 to 9 are independent postgraduate economic theory — microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, mathematical economics, international trade theory, public finance theory, monetary theory, growth theory and environmental/demographic economics — with nothing equivalent anywhere else on this platform, so no overlap risk applied to them at all. Unit 10, Indian Economy, is the one unit that does overlap this platform’s existing UPSC/BPSC Indian-economy chapters (agriculture, industry, services, poverty, unemployment, the Finance Commission and FRBM are all things those courses already teach), and it was checked against those chapters specifically and written independently of them: from this document’s own framing, which separately breaks agriculture, industry and services each into their own pattern-structure-challenges-policy analysis (rather than one shared paragraph) and names Centre-State Financial Relations and the Finance Commissions/FRBM as their own discrete sub-topic.
