UGC NET Sociology — Paper 2, subject code 05

All ten units are written, in 25 chapters: five for Unit 1, Sociological Theory — one for each of the document's own five blocks of thinkers, twenty-six in all, because theory is the spine of this paper; three each for Unit 3, Basic Concepts and Institutions, and Unit 10, Culture and Symbolic Transformations (eighteen items); and two for every other unit. The document numbers Unit 3's blocks 1, 2, 3 and 5, with no block 4, and this platform records that numbering as printed rather than inventing a missing block or renumbering the fifth. Five units touch material this platform already teaches elsewhere — Unit 3 (caste and class, gender, tribe), Unit 5 (social movements, reservations and politics, grass-root democracy), Unit 7 (environmental movements, displacement), Unit 8 (family laws, domestic violence) and Unit 10 (communalism and secularism) — against the UPSC General Studies Indian-society chapter, NET Political Science's political-process chapters, NET Economics's demography, NET Education's sociology of education and NET Paper-1's people-development-environment unit. Each of those was checked against the existing chapters and written independently, from this document's own framing and from sociological theory: caste through Bouglé, Ghurye, Dumont, Béteille and Ambedkar's critique rather than a current-affairs summary; movements through deprivation, resource-mobilisation and new-social-movement theory and the typologies of M.S.A. Rao and Ghanshyam Shah; reservation through Kothari's politicisation of caste; displacement through Cernea's impoverishment-risks model; family law and violence through feminist and kinship theory; secularism through Madan, Nandy and Bhargava. Units 1, 2, 4, 6 and 9, and most of Unit 10, are postgraduate sociology with nothing equivalent anywhere else on this platform.
