UGC NET Geography — Paper 2, subject code 80

All ten units are written, in 25 chapters: four each for Unit V, Population and Settlement Geography (two for each of its blocks), and Unit VI, Economic Activities and Regional Development (its five blocks in four chapters, the short economic-geography block sharing one with agricultural geography); three each for Unit IX, Geographical Techniques, and Unit X, Geography of India; one for Unit III, Oceanography, a single line of the document, with a larger quiz; and two for every other unit. Units I, II, III, IV and X overlap this platform's shared geography course (the physical geography of India and of the world, resources, and environment and ecology, taught at survey level for UPSC and state examinations), and Unit V's population block overlaps NET Economics Unit 9 (population theory and demographic measures); Unit IV's treaties are also touched by NET Paper-1, and Unit V's urban land-use models and Unit VII's social groups by NET Sociology. Each of those was checked against the existing chapters and written independently at postgraduate depth from this document's own list — Davis against Penck and the slope theories of Wood, King and Hack; Thornthwaite's water balance; ENSO mechanics; Ekman transport and western intensification; Lindeman, Elton and deep ecology; the Himalayan thrust belts and Burrard's divisions; the theories of the monsoon and the Somali jet; the Himalayan cryosphere; agro-climatic zones; data errors, densities and migration models on the geographer's side of demography; Christaller's k-values and social area analysis. Nothing is adapted or reworded. Units VI, VIII and IX, and the theory in Units V and VII, are postgraduate geography with nothing equivalent anywhere else on this platform. The official document carries misprints, which are quoted as printed wherever this platform quotes it and taught in their correct form: "Formal and Fictional Regions" is taught as formal and functional (nodal) regions; "Geo-politics of India Ocean" as the Indian Ocean; "Neopolitics of World Natural Resources" as the geopolitics of natural resources; "Scheafer & Hartshorne" as Fred K. Schaefer and Richard Hartshorne; "John Friedman" as John Friedmann; "quarternary" as quaternary; "ideographic" as idiographic; and "Drainage Frequency" as stream frequency. "Sadler" is Michael Thomas Sadler, correctly named, and "Koppen", "Losch" and "Von Thunen" are printed without their diacritics.
