UGC NET Physical Education — Paper 2, subject code 47

All ten units are written, in 25 chapters: two for each unit, except three for Unit I, the foundations of the discipline (philosophy, history, recreation and wellness; teaching aptitude and the sociology of sport; the Olympic, Asian and Commonwealth Games, sports bodies and awards), three for Unit II, exercise physiology (cardiorespiratory and muscular physiology; the neuromuscular junction, energy systems, recovery and nutrition; environment, women, ageing, therapeutic modalities and ergogenic aids), three for Unit III, kinesiology and biomechanics (planes, joints, muscles and levers; the mechanics of motion, projectiles, spin and fluids; posture and the analysis of movements and skills), three for Unit VII, sports training (principles, load and overtraining; strength, endurance, speed, flexibility and coordinative abilities; technique, tactics, planning, periodisation and talent identification), and three for Unit IX, test, measurement and evaluation (test theory, test construction and sports skill tests; fitness, motor ability and educability tests; anthropometry, somatotype, posture, physiological and psychological testing). The syllabus numbers its ten units and gives none of them a title or heading of any kind — each unit is a run of topic lines under "Unit -I:" to "Unit - X:" — so, as for Management and Library and Information Science, the outline and the Paper-II mock describe each unit by what it covers rather than by a heading the document does not have. The quantitative content is worked with checked answers: the projectile range R = v² sin 2θ ÷ g, with 45° as the optimum only on level ground and the reasons athletes release lower; the three lever classes with mechanical advantage as effort arm ÷ resistance arm; momentum and impulse; angular velocity and v = ωr; the coefficient of restitution; cardiac output and the Fick equation; the respiratory exchange ratio, energy from oxygen uptake and METs (1 MET ≈ 3.5 mL O2/kg/min); the Karvonen target heart rate with maximal heart rate conventionally estimated as 220 − age and its limitations stated; session RPE and a one-repetition maximum; BMI and the ponderal index (height ÷ ∛weight, with units stated and Rohrer's index distinguished); the Harvard step test long-form index, (duration in seconds × 100) ÷ (2 × the sum of three recovery pulse counts), checked against the original procedure; Siri's equation; the normal curve with about 68.26, 95.44 and 99.73 per cent within ±1σ, ±2σ and ±3σ, z- and T-scores and curve grading; a standard deviation, Spearman's rho and degrees of freedom; the Spearman–Brown correction and item analysis; and knock-out and league fixtures. The Heath–Carter somatotype is explained conceptually. Awards, schemes and law are taught as they now stand and dated only where certain: the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, renamed from the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in August 2021, the Arjuna Award (1961), the Dronacharya Award (1985), the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar (2009) and the MAKA Trophy (1956–57), with the lifetime-achievement award for sportspersons instituted in 2002 in Dhyan Chand's name described without asserting its current title; Khelo India (2017–18), the Fit India Movement (launched 29 August 2019), TOPS (2014), NEP 2020, the NCTE Regulations 2014 (which made the B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed. two-year programmes) and the National Sports Policy 2001; and the National Anti-Doping Act 2022, which made NADA and the National Dope Testing Laboratory statutory, with the WADA Code and Prohibited List. A new national sports policy adopted in 2025 and the National Sports Governance Act passed in August 2025 are stated only in outline, with a National Sports Board and a National Sports Tribunal named, and their commencement and rules are to be checked. Games are taught from Olympia (776 BCE), the IOC (23 June 1894) and Athens (1896) to Paris 2024, where India won six medals (one silver and five bronze), Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032; the Asian Games from New Delhi (1951) to Hangzhou 2022, held in 2023, where India won 107 medals, and Aichi–Nagoya 2026, stated as scheduled; and the Commonwealth Games from Hamilton (1930, as the British Empire Games) to Glasgow 2026. No results of the 2026 Games are claimed. Ergogenic aids are discussed academically with their status under the Prohibited List stated accurately, and health and first-aid content is written at textbook level as education, not personal medical advice. The document's slips are quoted and taught correctly: "Overload, its Causes, symptoms and remedial measures" is taught as excessive overload, the functional-overreaching-to-overtraining continuum; "physiological phenomenons" (phenomena), "Olympics games", "kinesthetic Sense organs" and "Russia England" (a missing comma) are quoted as written. The overlap with material already on this platform was scoped precisely. Unit IV touches NET Psychology's motivation, personality, emotion and learning chapters; here they are taught as sports psychology in competition, with arousal, aggression, imagery, cohesion and spectators that Psychology does not cover. Unit II touches the platform's biology chapters on muscle, the sliding filament theory, the neuromuscular junction and respiration and NET Home Science's nutrition; here they are taught as the physiology of performance and training. Unit III touches the platform's physics chapters on projectiles, levers, momentum and rotation; here they are applied to the body and to sports skills. Unit VI touches NET Home Science's nutrition, anthropometry and health chapters, taught here for the physical education teacher. Units I and V touch the Paper-1 teaching chapters and NET Education's curriculum chapters, taught here as the teaching and curriculum of physical education. Unit X touches NET Management, Public Administration and Social Work on management, HRM, budgeting and supervision, applied here to physical education departments and sports events. Unit VIII touches the research chapters of Paper-1 and eight subjects. Each was opened and written independently from this document's own list, as the applied discipline of physical education and sports science; nothing is adapted or reworded. Units VII and IX, the sports context of Units III and IV, and most of Unit I have no equivalent elsewhere on the platform.
