UGC NET Home Science — Paper 2, subject code 12

All ten units are written, in 22 chapters: two for each unit, except three for Unit II, Nutrition and Dietetics (nutrients and requirements; public health, life-span, community, sports and emergency nutrition with nutritional assessment; programmes, clinical and therapeutic nutrition and diet counselling), and three for Unit III, Textiles (fibre to fabric; finishes, dyeing and printing and the traditional textiles of India; testing, the environment and recent developments). The document prints each unit title in capitals ("UNIT-I : FOOD SCIENCE AND FOOD SERVICE MANAGEMENT"); the titles above are those words in title case, and the capitalisation is typographic while the words are verbatim. The syllabus has one structural feature that shapes the course: in every unit the tenth item is a different slice of research methods, from fundamentals and ethics (Unit I) through designs, types of research, hypothesis testing, sampling, tools and their reliability and validity, variables, data processing and statistics, and parametric and non-parametric tests, to report writing (Unit X). Together they make a complete research-methods course, and each slice is taught as the final section of its own unit's last chapter, with quiz questions tagged to that unit, so that each unit's section of the Paper-II mock asks its own slice; later slices cross-refer to earlier ones (the tests of Unit IX build on the statistics of Unit VIII and the hypothesis testing of Unit IV). Quantitative content is worked with checked answers: energy from macronutrients, BMI against both the WHO cut-offs and the Asian-Indian cut-offs used in Indian studies, waist-hip ratio, z-scores, glycaemic load, food cost percentage, GSM and shrinkage, the four-point fabric inspection, family budget shares, break-even, sample size, floor area ratio, the energy performance index, the Apgar score, and descriptive statistics, Spearman's rank correlation and a chi-square test. The course is taught as things now stand: ICMR-NIN Nutrient Requirements for Indians (2020) and Dietary Guidelines for Indians (2024); the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, under which the Fruit Products Order 1955 and its FPO mark were repealed; the National Food Security Act 2013, ICDS within Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, POSHAN Abhiyaan (2018), PM-POSHAN (2021) in place of the Mid-Day Meal scheme, and Anaemia Mukt Bharat; the Consumer Protection Act 2019 in place of the repealed 1986 Act, and the BIS Act 2016; GRIHA, IGBC and LEED, ECBC 2017, BEE star labels, the Energy Conservation Act 2001 as amended in 2022, and PMAY; the National ECCE Policy 2013 and NEP 2020's foundational stage, the RPwD Act 2016 with its 21 disabilities, POCSO 2012, the child labour law as amended in 2016, the JJ Act 2015 and the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005; Bloom's taxonomy with Anderson and Krathwohl's 2001 revision; and current development programmes. Figures are stated only where they could be given with confidence. Clinical and therapeutic nutrition is taught at textbook level as academic content, never as advice for an individual patient. The document's typographical slips are read as intended and taught correctly: "objectives and subjective" (objective and subjective evaluation), "Equipments", "for different and uses" (end uses), "case labels" (care labels), "housing need and important" (importance), "contemporary tends" (trends), "motif, colour and designed" (design) and "Panchyati raj". The overlap with material already on this platform was scoped precisely. Unit VII's theories of development touch NET Education's learner-development chapter and NET Psychology's human development chapter; Unit VII's special needs touches NET Education's inclusive education and disability chapters; Unit VIII's family and marriage touch NET Sociology's family, marriage and kinship chapters and NET Law's family law, and its counselling touches NET Education's guidance chapter and NET Psychology's counselling chapter; Unit V's human resource management, consumer behaviour and entrepreneurship touch NET Commerce and NET Management, and its consumer protection touches NET Law's consumer chapter; Unit V's natural resources and SDGs and Unit X's poverty and development programmes touch NET Geography and NET Economics; Unit X's panchayati raj touches NET Public Administration's local government and development administration chapters, and its curriculum and adult education touch NET Education's curriculum and andragogy chapters; Unit IX's basics of communication touch the Paper-1 communication chapters; and the ten research slices touch NET Education's research chapters, NET Psychology's research and statistics chapters and the Paper-1 research chapters. Each was checked and written independently from this document's own list, as the applied, household- and community-level discipline Home Science is; nothing is adapted or reworded. Units I, III, IV and VI, and most of Unit II, have no equivalent elsewhere on the platform.
