From the chapter: Reading Comprehension: Main Point, Inference, Tone and the Structure of a Passage

“Every book returned after its due date carries a fine. Rohan returned a library book last week and it carried no fine.” Which statement is best supported?

Show the answer and why

Answer: B.

A book returned after its due date carries a fine, so a book that carried no fine was not returned after its due date. That does not make it early: handing it back on the due date itself also incurs no fine, so ‘before’ goes beyond what is forced. One book says nothing about what Rohan always does, and nothing is said about other readers.
