From the chapter: Planets, Isostasy and the Seismic Structure of the Earth

Which terrestrial planet has a very dense carbon-dioxide atmosphere, a surface temperature of about 460 °C and a slow retrograde rotation?

Show the answer and why

Answer: B.

Venus holds a CO₂ atmosphere of about 90 times Earth’s surface pressure, and the resulting greenhouse effect gives a surface near 460 °C, hotter than Mercury. Mercury, the tempting answer because it is closer to the Sun, has almost no atmosphere, so its night side cools far below zero. Mars has a thin atmosphere and a cold surface.
