GATE Robotics and Automation (RA)

Your paper is sat in two parts. Part A is common, 60 marks: Engineering Mathematics (A.1), Basics of Mechatronics (A.2) and Principles of Robotics and Automation (A.3). Then you choose, in the exam, one of Part B1, Electrical Engineering, or Part B2, Mechanical Engineering, for 25 marks; the mock builds Part A and the part you pick, and shows a pooled paper until you have picked. A.1 is mostly in the shared chapters: rank, systems and eigenvalues; limits, derivatives, definite integrals, partial derivatives, maxima and minima and multiple integrals; gradient, divergence and curl; first-order and higher-order equations, Euler–Cauchy, Laplace transforms and separation of variables; Fourier series, in the first section of the Transform chapter only — its Fourier-transform and z-transform sections belong to B1.2 and may be skipped for A.1; the five distributions with expectation and variance; and roots, quadrature and the stepping of a differential equation. Two chapters are written for this paper alone, because no shared chapter teaches what they do: the transpose, determinant, adjoint and trace rules, Taylor series in one and two variables, improper integrals, the vector identities and the Jacobian of a two-link arm; and the exact and Bernoulli equations, Fourier coefficients with the solutions of the heat, wave and Laplace equations, the axioms of probability with the PDF and CDF, hypothesis testing, and the Jacobi and Gauss–Seidel iterations with finite differences. A.1 carries no mark weight of its own — the institute publishes 60 marks for Part A as a whole.

Frequently asked questions

Is this GATE Robotics and Automation material free?

Yes. Every chapter is free to read in English and Hindi. A free account adds scored practice, the full-length RA mock test in the real 65-question pattern, and the AI mentor.

How much of the GATE RA syllabus is covered?

The whole paper: 13 mathematics chapters as this paper's syllabus words them, and 19 chapters across all 8 discipline sections. General Aptitude is shared by every paper.

What is the GATE exam pattern?

65 questions for 100 marks in 180 minutes: General Aptitude for 15 marks and the paper for 85. A wrong MCQ costs a third of its marks; MSQ and NAT questions carry no negative marking.
