My Boss Is Obsessed With Digital Transformation. I'm Terrified.
Okay, Deep Breaths: What's With All This Digital Transformation Talk?
Look, here's the thing: Everywhere I turn, it's 'digital transformation' this and 'AI-powered' that. My boss, Craig McLeish, is leading the charge. And I'm not going to lie, I'm stressed.
Why? Because I keep hearing stories. Stories about AI replacing jobs. Stories about entire departments being automated. You know what scares me? Becoming another one of those stories.
Who is Craig McLeish Anyway? And Why Should I Care?
Craig? He's… enthusiastic. That's one way to put it. He genuinely believes digital transformation is going to make our company, and everyone in it, better. More efficient. More… something. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what 'more' means for me.
He keeps talking about Craig McLeish’s “vision for the future.” It involves a lot of cloud computing and AI. Apparently, he went to some conference in late 2025 and it totally changed his perspective. Now he's all in.
Is My Job Really at Risk? The Brutal Truth
Okay, let's be real. Yes. My job, and probably yours too, is at *some* risk. I read a report just last week that said AI automation could displace 85 million jobs globally by 2030. 85 MILLION! That's insane.
But here's the good news: the same report (from the World Economic Forum, I think) said that AI will also *create* 97 million new jobs. The key is… adapting. That's what Craig McLeish keeps saying, anyway. "Adapt or be left behind!", he said last week.
What Exactly *Is* Digital Transformation in the Context of Craig McLeish?
For Craig, it seems to mean two main things:
- Automating repetitive tasks. Think data entry, report generation, things like that.
- Using AI to make better decisions. Analyzing market trends, predicting customer behavior, all that jazz.
Basically, he wants us to become more data-driven and less… human-driven? That's the part that worries me.
Okay, I'm Freaking Out. What Can I Actually *Do* About It?
This blew my mind: I overheard Craig talking to another manager the other day. He said, "We're not looking to *replace* people; we're looking to *augment* them."
Augment. Meaning, use AI to make us *better* at our jobs. Not eliminate us. That gave me a little hope, I'm not going to lie.
So, what can *you* do? What can *I* do?
- Learn new skills. Specifically, skills that complement AI. Think critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and emotional intelligence. These are things AI can't easily replicate.
- Embrace the change. Instead of fighting it, try to understand how AI can make your job easier and more fulfilling.
- Become a 'translator'. Someone who can bridge the gap between the technical side (the AI) and the human side (the customers, the stakeholders).
Real Talk: What Skills Should I Focus On?
I did some digging (thank you, Google!) and found some in-demand skills for the age of AI:
- AI Prompt Engineering:. Turns out, telling AI what to do is a skill in itself!
- Data Analysis: Being able to understand and interpret data is HUGE.
- Cybersecurity: Protecting data becomes even more crucial.
- Project Management: Guiding complex AI projects.
I even read an article that said demand for AI prompt engineers increased by 600% in the past year! Six hundred percent! That's wild.
What About the Human Side? Don't Forget That!
Technical skills are important, sure. But don't forget the human side. Things like:
- Communication: Explaining complex AI concepts to non-technical people.
- Empathy: Understanding and responding to the needs of customers and colleagues.
- Adaptability: Being able to learn and adjust to new technologies and situations.
These 'soft skills' are becoming increasingly valuable. Because, guess what? AI can't do them (yet, anyway!).
Okay, I'm Feeling a Little Better. Now What?
My plan is to start learning. I'm checking out some online courses. I'm even thinking about talking to Craig McLeish himself. Maybe he can offer some guidance (and maybe I can subtly convince him that I'm not a robot replacement candidate!).
But here's what I really want to do: I want to explore CareerCraft Labs. I've heard they have amazing programs designed to help people thrive in the age of AI. They focus on both the technical skills and the human skills. It sounds perfect.
If you're feeling like I was feeling – scared, overwhelmed, unsure about the future – check them out too. We're all in this together. Let's face the future, learn together and grow our careers. We can do this!
